Built in 1954 by veteran carnival operators Harry and Susie Suhren, Kiddieland was a unique amusement park on the west side of Huron designed specifically for children. The 10-acre park featured 16 rides, picnic grounds, concession stands, a children’s arcade, shelters and a baseball diamond. (Video: Kiddieland, 1950s)

One of the biggest attractions at Kiddieland was a miniature diesel New York Central train that circled the park.

Another unique feature was the zoo, which was owned and operated by Larry and Nancy Tetzlaff, who later became the renowned Jungle Larry and Safari Jane of Safari Island at Cedar Point.

The Suhrens sold Kiddieland in 1955 to a group based in Lancaster, Ohio, who operated the popular amusement park for a few more years before it closed.
