Huron's harbor has long been one of the town's most distinguishing features. From the town's beginnings in the early 1800s the harbor is where most of the village's commerce originated, including the fish, lumber and shipbuilding industries. The establishment of the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad along with the coming of passenger and freight railways increased the village's prosperity.
