Huron Township
Established in 1809, Huron Township is one of nine townships in Erie County. It encompasses an area of 27. 80 square miles. The city of Huron is included in the township, allowing city residents to run for and vote for the three township trustee positions. When first settled the land east of the Huron River was covered with dense forest. Much of it was white oak, which was used to build ships. About 1,500 acres of the township was marshland. In the 2010 census 7,149 lived in the city and 3,548 lived in the unincorporated sections of the township.
