Several Huron residents and those who made Huron their home have contributed significantly to athletics, politics, art and other fields.
Ethel Swanbeck (R-Huron) represented the Ohio's 72nd House district, covering portions of Erie, Huron and Lorain counties for 22 years, from 1955 to 1976. She was the wife of Dr. Carl E. Swanbeck, a Huron physician. She and Dr. Swanbeck, who were married for 72 years, came two Huron in 1925. She died in 1989 at age 94.1958 Huron High School graduate Paul "Lefty" Doyle pitched professional baseball for 14 years. He played for the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, Houston Astros, Atlant Braves, California Angels and San Diego Padres.Howard Freeman Sprague was born in Huron in 1871. He was a marine painter, draftsman and illustrator specializing in portraits of Great Lakes and other deepwater steamships. During the Spanish American War, Sprague created paintings of several warships in Cuba for Century magazine.Huron native Jim Campbell began his 43 year career with the Detroit Tigers in 1953. He spent 21 of those years as General Manager, with the Tigers winning 2 World Series under his leadership. Reifer Street was changed to Jim Campbell Blvd. in his honor.
